October AMP Calendar

  1.  INTERNATIONAL COFFEE DAY, aka Java, cup of Joe, hot bean juice, whatever you call it take a moment to savour it.  If you find that your Finnish friend is a tad jittery, it could be because Finland is the top coffee-consuming country in the world.
  2. CUSTODIAL WORKER DAY, today you can recognize the people behind the scenes that do the dirty work.  Instead of leaving your rotting leftovers at the back of the fridge, you can do leaving a yummy treat for the clean-up crew at the front of the fridge to show your appreciation.
  3. TECHIES DAY:  Where would we be without our gadgets?  Not to mention how frustrating it is when they stop working.  We salute the skilled responders who come to the rescue when we click a link we shouldn’t have or help pair our watches with our cell phones.
  4. WORLD CARD MAKING DAY, this is a good reminder that you should get a head-start on your holiday greeting cards.  You can make home-made cards or simply ask us, ((((AMPLIFY))))) for help.
  5. TEACHERS DAY:  There are some amazing people that fill kids heads with knowledge and help them navigate through childhood obstacles.  For those exceptional people, be sure you tell them you give there a work an A+.
  6. PHYSICIAN ASSISSTANT DAY is when we consider all the things a P.A. does to keep the doctor’s office running while navigating sick people in and out of the office.  Sanitize your hands and give some high fives to the support staff at your doctor’s office today.
  7. BALD AND FREE DAY it the day to celebrate the freedom that comes with having no hair.  While the rest of us spend money on shampoos, combs, and styling products, people with smooth heads never have a bad hair day.
  8. EMERGENCY NURSES DAY:  Where would we be without nurses, especially the ones that are there at the time of crisis.  They risk their own health and wellbeing by taking care of yours.  Show some love to compassionate people in the ER, just don’t get in their way.
  9. FIRE PREVENTION DAY is today.  A single spark can destroy everything we have, or what someone’s else has.  In 1871 the great Chicago Fire started as a result of one lamp.  The fire burned for 27 hours destroying over 17,000 structures.  Events like that one other remind us how we need to educate ourselves on fire safety.
  10. WORLD HOMELESS DAY reminds us that there are several reasons why people do not have a roof over their heads.  Today be kind to someone in need.  Take note that most people are just one paycheque away from being homeless themselves.
  11. MOTORCYCLE RIDE DAY, just in case you needed a reason to experience the freedom of the road, today is a formal invitation to ride.
  12. FRUSTRATION DAY, nothing good comes out of frustration; usually anger and depression are the result.  You can help someone who is experiencing obstacles, or you can make a list of the things that are bringing you down and use that list to source help.
  13. Today is SKEPTICS DAY.  If you don’t believe me, this day is for you.
  14. DESSERT DAY:  Today is not diet day so feel free to have a second helping of sweet treats.
  15. GROUCH DAY:  Some people are just wired to be miserable.  Don’t let them get you down.    Maybe, on Dec 24th they will be visited by three ghosts like literature’s most famous grouch.
  16. BOSSES DAY.  Some attributes people say make for the best boss:  Fair, Honest, Understanding, Approachable, A good communicator, A good leader.  Sometimes, the person in charge doesn’t get positive feedback, here is you chance to compliment the things that makes them great.
  17. PASTA DAY celebrates that there are over 600 shapes of pasta.  Today support a local restaurant that specializes in this cuisine.
  18. SWEETESTS DAY does not celebrate eating all your Halloween candy that you should have save for trick-or-treaters; it is to be loving and kind to your partner.  If you are single, this day was originally intended to give gift and treats to orphans, shut-ins, and the underprivileged.  
  19. ELALUATE YOUR LIFE DAY is to begin a healthier and happier “you”.  Some people need to tinker with their life to make it better while others may need to hit the reset switch on life.
  20. CHEFS DAY is to educate people on how to eat healthy.  People who are proficient in the kitchens are encouraged to host programs, exhibits, or workshops on the subject.
  21. NATCHO DAY is thanks to Mexican inventor Agnacio “Nacho” Anaya who had the idea in 1943 to cut up tortillas into triangles, and top with cheese and jalapenos.  When he took them out of the oven, the nacho platter was born.
  22. SMART IS COOL DAY recognizes that intelligence is a gift.  You can play games and puzzles that challenge your mind.  The smartest known person in the world is Marilyn vos Savant with an IQ of 228.  I bet she is cool.
  23. TALK SHOW HOST DAY is celebrated on Johnny Caron’s birthday since many regarded him as the “King of late-night TV”.  There are talented people locally on TV, Radio, and online that you can celebrate and honour for their contribution to news, information, and entertainment.
  24. BOLOGNA DAY gives us the opportunity to create a meal using this lunch meat.  In Bologna, Italy where it was created, it is considered a delicacy.  
  25. ARTIST DAY is a day to celebrate the people in our community who create art.  There are many ways people can create art; you can support them by purchasing some art, attending a show, or introducing someone new to their work.
  26. MOTHER-IN-LAW DAY allows us to recognize the great things that make up your partner’s Mom.  
  27. FIRST RESPONDERS’ DAY marks the act of people first on the scene to an emergency.  We thank them for the courage and commitment they play when help is needed.
  28. PHARMACIST MONTH is celebrated in October.  If you have not taken a moment thank your pharmaceutical team for the care they take in understanding your drug cocktails, I prescribe that you do that today.
  29. CAT DAY is a day to pamper your feline friends.  If you don’t have a kitty you can donate to a local animal shelter.
  30. HAUNTED REFREGERATOR NIGHT is when ghosts, spirits, or poltergeists hide among the chilled foods in your fridge.  Do not let them out by opening the door after dark.  If you need to open the door, close it as quickly as you can to keep them trapped inside.
  31. INCREASE YOUR PSYCHIC POWERS DAY.  Clearing your mind and concentrating is essential to developing your psychic powers.  Listen for the voices from the other side, dust off the Ouija board, or when the phone rings guess who’s calling (without looking at caller ID).
